American Graffiti

Taking place in the Summer of 1962, the "American Graffiti" soundtrack holds some of the best tunes for a musical turning point in history. The film was directed by George Lucas, produced by Francis Ford Coppola, written by Willard Huyck, Gloria Katz, and Lucas. It was released in the Summer of 1973.

The soundtrack features artists like the Flamingos, Booker T. & the M.G.'s and the Beach Boys. The character John (played by Paul Le Mat) even says he hates surf music and that "Rock n Roll [had] been going down hill since Buddy Holly died" as a Beach Boys song plays in his car, showing the musical evolution of the time period.

The kids in town are also bonded by a radio station hosted by Wolfman Jack (played by the real American disc jockey). George Lucas had a fascination with the Wolfman and considered doing a documentary on the real figure while he attended the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts.

The music of the late 1950s and early 60s made a comeback in the year of the film's release.

Favorite song from the film: Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight, The Spaniels
