Elijah Rosario explores family and grief in "Discovery After Death"
I first discovered Elijah Rosario’s music through another music blog (we bloggers have to stick together!) I feel very lucky to have gotten to know Elijah a little better over the past few months after he sat down with me for an interview on my radio show (see link below to listen.) We bonded over our shared grief experience as we both lost our mothers in 2019. This album explores family, grief and overall, is a beautiful tribute to his mom.
The talking in between songs gives the album a very raw and real insight into Rosario’s psyche. I’m reminded of the Beatles “Let it Be”. The conversational flow is not something just any artist can achieve so well done, Elijah. The intro on the opening song ‘Severing Ties’, functions as a little prologue where Elijah discusses his mom’s funeral.
Melodically, ‘Wrong Things’ is my favorite track. I absolutely love featured artist Sammi Dee’s voice. The drums on ‘Common Ground’ are epic and give the album a timeless feel. ‘Phone Home’ gave me 2016 nostalgia, reminding me of an early Drake sound. And lyrically, ‘Travel Guide’ and ‘Training Wheels’ are my favorites.
Great features. Great message.
I feel proud to know Elijah and I’m excited for this artist’s future as I know it will be bright.
Favorite song on the album: Tie between ‘Wrong Things’ and ‘Travel Guide’
