Monterey Pop: 12 Iconic Moments
This Music Monday, we are celebrating the 57th anniversary of Monterey Pop!
1. Jimi Hendrix sets his guitar on fire
Had to start off strong!
2. Ravi Shankar's performance
An 18 minute sitar Wonderland. Can you spot Micky Dolenz?
3. Grace Slick shows off her pipes
4. The Animals cover the Stones!
Talk about pipes! Eric Burdon absolutely DESTROYS.
5. The Who talk about their generation...
If you know anything about me, you know the Who are my boys! The top comment on this video says it all "Between this and Hendrix' Performance, it was a really bad night to be a Stratocaster."
Originally, the Who were supposed to perform before Hendrix. Pete Townshend didn't think that was right and talked to Jimi about it. They ended up flipping a coin and since, Hendrix lost, he would go on AFTER the Who.
6. The Byrds perform
7. Laura Nyro performs Wedding Bell Blues
Did you know she wrote this song at just 18 years old!?
8. Janis Joplin...need I say more?
9. Hello Darkness my old friend...
10. Otis Redding performs
11. Peter Tork intruces Buffalo Springfield
12. Mama Cass sings Dancing in the Street
Their closer, and the closer of the festival!
