Why your favorite may also be a creep...
Rock Stars who slept with, assaulted and flat out groomed teenage girls…aka literal children!
Disclaimer: I know some of these girls were 18 and 19, and thus “legal”. I don’t care. They are still teenagers and the age gaps are massive.
1. David Bowie
Lori Mattix says that when she was 14 years old, she was introduced to David Bowie and he “de-virginized” the teen (Bowie was about 25). “That night I lost my virginity and had my first threesome [with Sable Starr]” she told Thrillist in 2015. However, Sable Starr, also 14, said she had sex with Bowie alone.
2. Mick Jagger
Mattix alleges to have engaged in a physically intimate relationship with Mick Jagger when she was 17.
Actress Rae Dawn Chong, daughter of Tommy Chong, said she slept with Jagger back in 1977 when she was just 15 years old and he was 33.
The lyrics to “Stray Cat Blues” sound eerily familiar…
“I can see that you're 15 years old
No I don't want your ID
And I can see that you're so far from home
But that's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime”
3. Chuck Berry
He was sentenced to three years in prison in January 1962 for offenses under the Mann Act. He had transported a 14-year-old girl across state lines for the purpose of having sexual intercourse.
Reportedly, in a police raid, explicit videotapes of women including a minor were found in Berry’s house.
4. Steven Tyler
Tyler learned from Berry’s mistakes. In 1973, Tyler obtained guardianship of 16-year-old Julia Holcomb so that he could take her across state lines and she could live with him in Boston. Tyler was 25.
5. John Phillips
Phillips’ eldest daughter Mackenzie claimed that she and her father had a 10-year long abusive and incestuous relationship. In her memoir “High on Arrival”, Mackenzie wrote that the relationship began in 1979 when she was 19 years old. Her father also drugged her on top of sexually assaulting her.
6. Jimmy Page
28-year-old Jimmy Page dated 13-year-old Lori Mattix. Mattix claims the relationship began by her being "basically kidnapped" by Led Zeppelin's tour manager Richard Cole and brought to Page's hotel room. According to Rolling Stone, Page went to great lengths to keep the relationship a secret due to it being illegal and statutory.
7. Johnny Thunders of New York Dolls
Sable Starr ran away from home when she was 16 after meeting Johnny Thunders, guitarist in the glam rock band. They first met when she was 15 and he was 20. He was incredibly violent towards her.
8. Kim Fowley
The producer has many sexual assault allegations including one by Kari Krome who filed a lawsuit against Fowley's estate alleging that he had repeatedly sexually assaulted her when she was about 14 or 15 years old. His tombstone reads “Stay Teenage”.
9. Marilyn Manson
Actress Evan Rachel Wood, who was 18 at the time when the then-37-year-old Manson pursued her. She claims he abused her, sexually assaulted as well as drugged her in her docuseries “Phoenix Rising”. She appears alongside other victims who have come forward. His song “Heart Shaped Glasses” (a reference to Lolita) is about her. He forcibly penetrated her during what was supposed to be a sex scene in the music video.
10. Elvis
Elvis met his future wife Priscilla when she was only 14.
11. Ric Ocasek
During filming of the music video for the Cars' song "Drive" in 1984, Ocasek met future wife, then 19-year-old Czech-born supermodel Paulina Porizkova, while he was still married to his first wife Suzanne.
12. Jerry Lee Lewis
Married his 13-year-old first cousin.
13. Iggy Pop
At age 23, Pop had a relationship with 13-year-old Sable Starr. The song "Look Away" is about her.
So, now I want to open it up to the comments. Some of these men are dead, some are still making music. When do we separate the art from the artist? And when do we flat out cancel? Because I for one, can still recognize the contributions some of these men have made to the music industry and some even being pioneers of rock and roll. Chuck Berry being number one, who without him we wouldn’t have Elvis then we wouldn’t have the Beatles and so on and so forth. I’ve seen people cherry pick ALL THE TIME especially online. For example, some people love David Bowie and Mick Jagger, yet call Jimmy Page a pedophile, while all three slept with the same girl (Lori Mattix) WHILE she was a teenager.
I guess my main question to you all is: why do we hold some men accountable and not others?
